LOS ANGELES, California. We took a random look at states and countries with nursing home impact from Coronavirus. It appears that nursing homes with elderly patients, and who also tend to have underline health issues, have been affected disproportionately.

Random Sample States – Coronavirus Issues in Nursing Homes.

California. As the state remains in lock-down, a new report finds 40 percent of the Golden State‘s Coronavirus deaths occurred in skilled nursing homes.

In Los Angeles, some 50 percent of all Coronavirus deaths occurred in nursing homes. The mayor of Los Angeles said L.A. will never completely reopen until there is a cure (vaccine) for Coronavirus.

“The city of Los Angeles won’t fully reopen until there’s a vaccine for COVID-19″

— Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) said May 13, 2020.

That’s interesting. The CDC has said there are seven (7) different known Coronaviruses to date; and none of them have a cure.

The ‘common cold’ (Influenza) affects millions of people, and has about 12 different strains. In fact, the flu virus infects 40 times more people than Covid-19. Flu-complications cause tens-of-thousands to die every single year. World-wide, tobacco-related deaths cause about 22,000 deaths every day.

The flu has been around for about 440 years and there is still no cure.

Sure there is a flu shot, but it does not guarantee one won’t get sick, let alone die. The flu shot may protect up to four of the 12 different flu strains. The CDC suggests vaccinated individuals are 40 to 60 percent less likely to get the flu during a particular season. Flip those percentages around and that means there is a 40 to 60 percent of a population who will get the flu anyway.

Florida. Of the 1,364 Coronavirus-related deaths reported in the Sunshine State, over 400 people or 30 percent were in nursing homes.

Illinois. The state says they have some 1,900 Covid-19 nursing home cases (3,239 CV-19 cases in the state); which makes 58 percent of the state’s Coronavirus cases coming from nursing homes.

The other pandemic is in Chicago, where so far (as of 5-13-2020) 172 people have been killed not by the Coronavirus, but by criminal gun violence (Current data). What does the state do to keep criminals off the street? Very little.

Minnesota. “The majority of deaths in Minnesota caused by COVID-19 have been in older Minnesotans, people with underlying health conditions and those who live in congregate care centers.”

Nebraska. There are some 4,800 cases of Covid-19 with 73 deaths. Of those 73 deaths, 48 people or 66 percent were nursing home patients.

New Jersey: As of April 18, some 40 percent of Coronavirus deaths in the state occurred in nursing homes. These homes represent about one percent of the entire state’s population. But New Jersey governor, Phil Murphy (D) feels he needs to lock-down the other 99 percent?

New York: As of April 11, 2020, over 50 Percent of New York’s licensed nursing home centers are infected with Coronavirus. Of the 4,630 cases that tested positive, some 1,439 have died. That works out to be 31 percent of CV-19 deaths occurred in New York nursing facilities.

Pennsylvania. “More than 68 percent of Pennsylvania’s coronavirus deaths have occurred in nursing or personal care homes.”

Nursing Homes Account for One-Out-of-Three Coronavirus-Related Deaths.

The New York Times reported 29,100 people in nursing homes including staff died, related to Coronavirus. This NY Times data is about a month old. Even comparing the data based on the total current deaths (below chart), that works out to be one-out-of-three people who died from Coronavirus were in a nursing home.

The New York Times also noted a CDC report that strongly shows more people die from infections while in nursing homes, than died from Coronavirus.

“Even before the pandemic, 380,000 people died each year from infection at long-term care facilities, according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention”

— Source: New York Times, April 17, 2020

The CDC reported in 2015 (latest data) that there are about 1.3 million people in nursing home/ long-term care facilities in the USA. By 2016 (latest data), the CDC pointed out that the majority of people under nursing home care have underline health issues.

Despite the majority of risks and deaths affecting those in nursing homes, the CDC is not tracking this data specifically.

International.

We checked random samples of countries outside the USA. Nursing home issues with Coronavirus seems to be the same issue as it is in the USA.

France. Although the data is not complete, thus far in France, 33 percent of the county’s Coronavirus deaths are said to be from nursing homes.

Quebec, Canada. “3200 Quebecers have lost their lives in this COVID-19 crisis. The majority of those deaths have occurred in the province’s long term care homes.”

United Kingdom. The UK’s official CV-19 deaths from nursing homes works out to be 34 percent, but that does not include Jan-April 2020 numbers.

Based on nursing home case data not previously counted during the first four months of 2020, as many as 63 percent of the UK’s Coronavirus deaths are related to nursing homes. Then again, the number of total deaths could be 50,000, which is 37 percent higher than the 36,473 deaths the UK has admitted. The UK previously declined to release nursing home death data related to Coronavirus.

Hong Kong. We have no nursing home data for Hong Kong. Many have wondered why Hong Kong was not badly affected with Coronavirus. Hong Kong closed their borders with China early even though Hong Kong is technically controlled by China.

Hong Kong also prohibited all foreigners from coming into the country. This seemed to work until Hong Kong allowed travel back into the country. Reinstating international airline travel saw Coronavirus cases double in Hong Kong.

CDC: Trend-line Shows Number of New Coronavirus Decreasing in the USA.

Coronavirus cases peaked near mid-April 2020 in the USA. The trend-line since shows the number of new cases decreasing. Data: 2020-05-14 Coronavirus cases USA. Source: CDC.

No Cures for 440 Years – Global Population Soars and People Thrive.

Despite the current Covid-pandemic panic, other major diseases are still around, and there are no cures.

  • The Coronavirus MERS has been around since 2012 – 8 years – no cure.

  • The Coronavirus SARS has been around since 2003 – 17 years – no cure.

  • Influenza (The Flu) has been around since 1580 – 440 years – no cure.

The global population has soared over the last 440 years, and continues to grow without regard to these diseases. Economies and people tend to thrive anyway.

The Trump Administration has ambitious hope for a vaccine for Covid-19 by 2020 year-end; has considerable effort and money pushing for results.

It was reported that the CDC said, 80 percent of Coronavirus deaths were due to those 65 and older and to those with existing underline health issues.

If we knew this back on March 18, 2020, why did many state governors decided to shut down their states and isolate all the healthy people?
