Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) Repeatedly BLOCKS Progress on Government Shutdown

original article written by Net Advisor

WASHINGTON DC. The government continues to be in its limited shutdown. HUD spent nearly $3 Billion in three days during the shutdown. The U.S. Treasury issued (borrowed) $106 Billion in new debt. Thus the government has money, has the ability to get money, and we all know has the ability to spend money.

The Democrats and many in the media seek to blame the Republicans in the House who have passed bi-partisan bills to fund the entire government except for ObamaCare. The House sought a one year delay on ObamaCare, as President Obama gave unilateral exemptions to special interest groups. Why should the people not have the same equal treatment?

The House continues to send mini bills to the Senate which have all been tabled, blocked or otherwise – rejected. All of the House bills have been blocked by one person – Senator Harry Reid (D) of Nevada.

[1] House Passes Bill To Pay Government Employees Retroactively – Then BLOCKED By the Senate
The United States Senate lead by Majority Whip Harry Reid (D-NV) BLOCKED a House Bill that would allow furloughed government employees to get retroactive pay. The House approved the bill on Saturday, October 5, 2013 with the vote 407 to zero supporting back-pay for furloughed workers. CBS reported 25 members of the House did not bother to vote.

“Those proposals have cleared the House only to be promptly killed by Democrats in the Senate, a fact bemoaned by Cantor after the House voted on Saturday.

“Look at the votes we have taken,” he instructed the reporters present, telling them to “ask [Senate] Majority Leader Reid why is he not bringing up any of these bills? Because I think there is a majority of senators who support these bills to ease the pain on the American people.”

[2] Senator Reid Shut Down The Government, Blames Republicans
The government shutdown was orchestrated by Senator Reid and broadcast live on CSPAN, Sep 30, 2013 [Source: C-SPAN Video Library @10:00:00].

Mr. Reid refused to accept any government funding bill that did not include full funding for ObamaCare. President Obama also said he would VETO any bill that did not include ObamaCare. Without full government funding, the government is then partially shutdown; thus Senator Reid and President Obama are responsible for the government shutdown.

Also note the same CSPAN Video @10:01:45 on screen: “White House (not the House of Representatives, not Republicans, not the Tea Party, but the WHITE HOUSE) Budget Office Directs Federal Agencies to Shut Down.” This comes as Harry Reid orders the shutdown of the government.

Republicans wait at a table for Democrats to show up to discuss the goverment shutdown. No Democrats bothered to show. Democrats have falsely blamed Republicans & the Tea Party for the shutdown. Dems are unwilling to even have a conversation about it. (Photo Credit: J. Scott Applewhite/AP)

[3] Majority Whip of the Senate Controls What Bills Get Heard on Senate Floor
Senator Reid controls what bills get to be heard on the Senate floor. The House passed a second bill that funds the entire government including everything the Democrats want, if ObamaCare would be delayed for 1 year plus elimination of a medial tax on devices that would mostly likely to affect the elderly. Mr. Reid rejected that bill entirely.

[4] Reid the Obstructionist?
Senator Reid has led the Democrat Senate to try and blame Republicans and the Tea Party for the government shutdown. Instead of attacking their argument, Reid and company are slandering their political opponents’ character. When one stops debating the issue and resorts to personal attacks, the attacker admits they have no argument.

[5] How Government Funding Works
Constitutionally speaking, the way funding works is determined by the House of Representatives – NOT by the Senate. ObamaCare is a tax on citizens and business and therefore the funding bill MUST be approved by the House or it can never be funded.

“All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with amendments as on other Bills.”

— Article I, Section 7 of the United States Constitution. (Source: Cornell Law School)

Senator Reid is solely responsible for keeping the shutdown going by refusing to even sit down and disuses the issues. It is his way (under instruction of President Obama) or the highway. Thus, if Mr. Reid and the president don’t get their way, everyone else must suffer.

Senator Reid also said he would not even support a mini House bill that is only related to helping kids with cancer. Reid said to a reporter, “Why, why would we want to do that?…” Senator Reid continued and said he had other priorities.

Senator Reid: “…I have 1,100 people at Nellis Air Force Base that are sitting home. They have a few problems of their own.” Nellis AFB is located in Senator Reid’s home state of Nevada.

Reid chastised House Republicans for picking and choosing what parts of government should be funded. Unfortunately for Senator Reid, that is EXACTLY how our Constitutional government works.

[6] Kingdom of the Senate?
Senator Reid wants to tell the House how to govern, and if the House does not govern Reid’s way, then there will be no governing. Does that sound like a Constitutional Republic let alone a ‘Democracy’ to you? Let’s see, what is that called? One person rules – makes ALL the decisions; rejects any idea that is not in exact alignment of the ruler? Hmmm?

Democratic Senator Reid also blocked funding for National Guard salaries, veteran’s benefits, national parks and museums. Despite the government’s (limited) shutdown President Obama has kept Camp David open, available for his retreat; however Mr. Obama has cut-off or provided limited access to “television, radio, print and web services” to U.S. troops serving overseas.

Both Senator Reid and President Obama continue to blame others for the government shutdown.
